1/30: Hoosiers Send off Seniors on Senior Night
Friday night the Hoosiers honored their six seniors playing in their final home game in Bloomington.
With a big crowd on hand and the emotions of Senior Night, the Wolverines would need a quick start if they wanted a chance, and that is just what they got.
Michigan scored two in the first to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room. Although the Hoosiers put 20 shots on net in the first, they couldn't find the back of the net.
In the second period, goalie Justin Madigan had to come out with an injury, which led to the enterance of David Argast.
Many goalies have trouble coming in off the bench cold when called on, but Argast came in hot and killed off a 5-3.
The Hoosiers took the momentum of the big penalty kill, and lit the lamp twice to tie the game at two.
Tyler Christensen scored the first one on the PP to bring the score to 2-1, then Cody Reiff scored 40 seconds later to tie this one up at two.
Michigan would get one more in the third to take the lead into the locker room after the 2nd period, 3-2.
The third period would be one of the most thrilling of the season, with seven combined goals between the two teams.
Eichsteadt started the scoring to tie the game at three. Michigan responded with two of their own both within a minute to open the game back up to a 5-3 lead.
Then, Nick Kleva scored on the PP to cut the lead to one. Kleva's goal was a memorable one, as it gave him the record for most goals, assists, and points in a single season in IU's Division 3 history.
Kleva wasn't satisified with just picking up the record, he wanted the win.
Although Michigan would respond to his goal again to make it 6-4, Kleva would pick up an assist on Tyler Christensen's 2nd goal of the night, before scoring his second of the night with under five minutes to play to tie the game at 6-6 going into OT.
Despite the surging comeback, the Wolverines got the puck in deep right away to start OT, getting a loose puck in front by Argast to pick up the 7-6 win.
Even though they lost, the game was one of the best and most memorable of the season. The fans were loud and made for a great setting for Senior Night. Michigan players after the game said the crowd was the biggest, loudest, and most hostile they had played in all season. Thank you to everyone who came to the game and got loud to help send the seniors off right.
1/31: Hoosiers Come Up Short in OT
The Hoosiers looked to shake-off the Friday night OT loss and pick up a W vs. Michigan on Saturday night.
They came out on the right foot to start Saturday night's game off, with an early goal by Tyler Christensen to take a 1-0 lead.
Indiana dominated the first period with shots in their favor at 21-11. However, Michigan was able to squeeze one by with a minute left in the period to make it a time game heading into the first intermission.
The second period was dominant again for the Hoosiers, outshooting the Wolverines again 21-11. Despite the large shooting discrepency, it would remain a tie after two periods.
Ryan Santorsola and Nate Mika scored in the second period in-between two Michigan goals to head into the third period at 3-3.
Early in the third period Nate Mika made a great individual play to score and give the Hoosiers the lead for the third time of the night at 4-3.
It looked as if IU was going to come out on top this time, but Michigan had other plans.
A deflected shot with 4 minutes left tied the game up, and sent this one to OT for the second night in a row.
Indiana had the early advantage in OT picking up a PP for a 4 on 3 advantage, but shortly into the PP Indiana would pick up a pently of their own.
3 on 3 play left for a lot of open ice, and the Wolverines were able to take advantage of it first, scoring 1:49 into OT to pick up the win.
Ben Seinfeld had the start for Indiana on Saturday, and was stellar making 40 saves.
