Inagural ICHC Showcase Set to Begin in Fort Wayne

Storyline

This weekend, October 10-12, the Indiana Collegiate Hockey Conference will be hosting is inagural showcase in Fort Wayne, IN at Canlan Ice Sports, hosted by IPFW. Every year the ICHC will host a showcase in October and the end of the year conference tournament in February. The Hoosiers will get their chance to play host next October for the 2015 ICHC Showcase.

The showcase will feature each of the four teams in the conference playing one another through the course of the weekend. Here is the complete ICHC Showcase schedule:

Friday 10/10

IPFW vs. Purdue 8:00PM

Indiana vs. Ball State 9:10PM

Saturday 10/11

Purdue vs. Ball State 1:40PM

Indiana vs. IPFW 4:20PM

Sunday 10/12

Purdue vs. Indiana 12:10PM

Ball State vs. IPFW 2:50PM

This will be a big weekend for all four teams, as each of them will be looking to make an early statement to the rest of the conference. The big question that may or may not be answered by the end of this weekend is who will emerge as the front runner for the first ICHC title? Either a clear cut front runner will emerge, or more paridy will arise. It won't be until the dust settles and the weekend ends before either of those can be concluded.

What to Watch For

Indiana Hoosiers

Indiana enters this weekend with a record of 3-1, with 2 ICHC wins already under their belt. After sweeping the Cardinals 5-2, 8-3 at home, IU will look to carr their past success over the Cardinals on Friday night in their first game of the showcase. Saturday night will feature a matchup vs. IPFW, a matchup that hasn't occured since January of 2012, when IPFW swept the Hoosiers 9-1 and 6-2. Only 1 Hoosier remains on the roster from the last time these two met, so IU is hoping fresh faces will result in a fresh result against the Mastadons. Sunday afternoon the "5th best rivalry in college sports" as touted by the Huffington Post begins a new chapter as the Hoosiers and Boilermarkers meet on the ice for the 6th time. Last year, these two teams split a weekend series in Bloomington. Sunday's matchup will be a test to see who can grab momemntum between the two teams leading into their upcoming series on October 24-25 at Purdue.

Ball State Cardinals

Ball State has dropped their first three contests of the season, one in a shootout, to stand at a record of 0-2-0-1. #25 Brock Fraser did a lot of the heavy lifting for the Cardinals scoring 4 of the team's 5 goals this past weekend. If the Cardinals can obtain some supplemental scoring this weekend they'll be in good position to pick up a few wins.

Purdue Boilermarkers

Purdue enters this weekend at a record of 2-4. The Boilermarkers began the 2014-2015 season with a set against newly formed Indiana Tech, dropping a pair of close games to a strong Warriors team 4-3 and 10-6. Purdue went on the road the following two weekends, picking up a pair of wins against Illinois State 4-2 and 6-4, but were swept by a strong Holy Cross team 5-2 and 7-2.

IPFW Mastadons

IPFW is 0-3 and still looking for their first win of the season, but have had a tough schedule out of the gates. The Mastadons kicked off their season by playing a strong Adrian Black team, dropping the contest in Michigan 5-3. The Dons opened up at home last weekend against Michigan-Flint, who were national runner-ups in 2013. After being blown out on Friday night 11-0, IPFW came back strong Saturday and held a 7-6 lead late, before Flint scored in the final few minutes to tie the contest at 7, and eventually winning in OT.
