10/3: IU Pinks the Rink and Lights Up the Scoreboard

Opening night at the Frank featured the Indiana Hoosiers hosting the Ball State Cardinals. The Hoosier’s Pink the Rink night kept the stands packed and excited as honored breast cancer survivors Terri Smithson, Juli Forrest and Lori Stapleton carried out the ceremonial faceoff before the beginning of the game.

Captain Nick Kleva got the Hoosiers on the board first with a goal assisted by Kyle Donelson and Tyler Christensen. The Cardinal’s Brock Frazer tied the game wit an unassisted goal with under two minutes left to send both teams into the locker room notted at 1.

Kleva broke the tie 1-0 with his second goal of the night, assisted by freshman Bryan Mooney and junior Tyler Christensen.

Junior Cody Reiff followed up with goal off a rebound, assisted by sophomore Nathan Mika, bringing the Hoosiers to a 3-1 lead.  Tyler Christensen added to his two assists with a solid one-timer assisted by Patrick Gorniak and Nick Kleva.

The Hoosiers continued to dominate the Cardinals after Adam Thoma added a point with help from Bryan Mooney and Mike Santorsola.  However, Ball State wrapped up the third period with a goal scored by Brock Frazer, his second for the night.  Despite putting up a fight in the last few minutes of the third, it was not enough to come back from the Hoosier’s 5-2 lead.  Overall, it was a heated game, with both teams wracking up a total of 27 penalties, which surely keept the fans on the edges of their seats.

Additionally, the Hoosiers would like to thank everyone who attended Pink the Rink and helped raise awarness and funds for breast cancer research and testing.

10/4: Hoosiers Complete the Sweep

The Hoosiers came back the following day dominating Ball State with a final score of 8-3. Hoosiers Mike Santorsola, John Campanelli, John Gagnon provided goals in the first period. Assists were given by Austin Spahr, Ryan Santorsola, and Cody Reiff. The Hoosiers controlled the second period with goals by Bryan Mooney, Nathan Mika and Danny Brogan. Assists were given by Donelson, Cummins and Gorniak.

The third period began and ended with Hoosier goals by Christensen and Gorniak with assists from Kleva, Gagnon and Nick Mpistolarides.  The second game retained its previous intensity but managed to significantly reduce the number of penalties.

The Hoosiers move on to the ICHC Showcase this weekend playing Ball State this Friday, the IPFW Mastadons on Saturday, and Purdue Sunday in Fort Wayne.
